S P A C E
Space in photography is a little different than space in art. You still can have positive space and negative space, where depth is created. You can also have space represented by not having many elements in an image. In my past life as a graphic designer we had “white” space as well. This where you have inactive space on an image that isn’t being used, but can have a profound meaning.
There are times when you can utilize space and create a dramatic effect. For instance, if I want to show perspective from the size of a person, overlooking the Grand Canyon, then the size f the person can help show a dramatic view of the canyon. Depth of field, and rule of thirds are two composition styles where space is useful as well. The images below represent space in their own unique way. Out of these four, the “Suessical Trees” are my favorite. |
